Branding your website

Ever wondered why Google is called Google and not say topsearchengine.com? Also, why Webmasterz.blogspot.com is not webmastertipsandstrategies.com?

The reason is simple. When your visitor visits your site, he should not only be taken in by the content, but also be capable enough to come back to your website without going through the same line of clicks that he made to visit your website.

This is called branding. Branding is all about creating the product recall for the customer. And this is not a website concept. This is a marketing concept that is prevalent in any consumer market. And it becomes especially important because if your customer does not remember you, he will be more than ready to make a search on Google regarding what he wants and get access to a million other similar websites.

In this regard, always choose a domain name that is catchy and expresses your website content quite well. Gone are the days when Google used to give weightage to the keyword name in the domain name. Now, with billions of site, the indexes do not take this into account at all.

Also, another advantage of having a generic brand name is that it becomes easy when you change the theme of your website. You retain the PageRank that you have made.
