Adsense - Fear a click attack?

A click attack is something that looks great if you are a newbie, but something that pulls your breath out for a seasoned Adsense campaigner. Also, this is something that can be done to you, both by your well wisher, and also by your competitor.

Unfortunately, Google cannot possibly make out the intentions behind every click, and understandably due to the large number of make-quick-buck kind of people registered has to take a second look at every click on your ads. Now, there is a very limited possible list of things that you can do when you fear you are experiencing a click attack.
Firstly, as a general practice, keep a track on the number of clicks that each IP address registers in a day. This not only helps you focus your content on the most relevant audience at the geographic level(doing which helps you get more and more clicks from such an audience), but also help you guess the culprit in case you experience a heavy bunch of clicks from one or more IPs.

The first thing that you should do in such a case is to immediately ban that IP from your website. Also, immediately inform Google about what you are just experiencing so that Google can also help in identifying the culprit and in case, an Adsense account is registered from that very IP, it is possible that he gets banned.

But remember that Google also knows the flip side of such a theory. What if you deliberately click on ads from another computer and then inform Google that somebody else is clicking on yours. Though this is quite a difficult issue to tackle, through the experience of various other webmasters, some things can possibly be done. Google is often known to have taken a look at the past history of the publisher, and were you either a low time earner or a newbie, you could possibly be banned.

But ,such cases are always taken up, if you indeed were honest in your dealing with Adsense. However, to be on the safe side and possibly collect your check someday, never try to cheat as Google has often found to catch you red handed.

Moving on to the wellwisher team of people who click your ads for your 'own good', it is your prime responsibility to educate your near and dear ones that such an activity will only bring you a loss and not a gain. But sometimes, it can also be that your kids can inadvertently click on one of your ads when browsing the website at home. Possible that you yourself clicked on it sometime. To avoid such instances, do a little bit of coding on your website so that it does not show Adsense ads in the first place if it is from your own computer. Though this advice cannot be ensured for every kind of website, atleast, this will help you know the possible avenues where you can expect trouble to your account from.
