Using a banned website

There are two peculiar instances in which Adsense publishers have lost their accounts in the past. One is when the second hand domain name that they purchase is already banned from Adsense. The other case is when the website they own is linked from a website that is banned from Adsense.

These are two instances, you are more of a victim rather than a culprit. But still, it is a matter of relief that Google manages its Adsense through humans and not totally automated. And due to this, reclaiming your account if it is banned for this reason becomes relatively easier.

So, if you are still not banned, but looking to purchase a new domain which you fear might have had bad history, one thing you could do is look for the website's archive pages at http://web.archive.org/ . If the site indeed existed before you purchased the domain, then you should start working on knowing its past history.

One very simple way to do this is mail Adsense Support about your intention to use the domain name and enquire about their past history. There have been several cases where Adsense actually confirmed that the site was actually banned, but still assured of no action since this was now used for a different account. This is the safest way, since you could actually face no problem hereon if you did mention about your clean history.

Now, to probe into the linking pages for your website, try a Google search for pages linking to you. if your website is a new one, then you should only be expecting a few inbound links. So, manually checking out the individual pages should not be a problem. For a long list of pages, though asking Google might be a safe option, it is often considered unnecessary as a large list of pages linking to you often means that your site is quite popular, and Google understands the effect a popular website might have on the publishers control over who is linking to his website. So, in short, no need for worry.

For a publisher banned on these circumstances, get the reason out from Google on the actual reason for the ban, and use the above methods to find out the real culprit. If only you can prove Google that the reason for the ban was not inside your personal reach, then you could possibly get the ban revoked.
