When to quit your day job
A little success can be a dangerous thing; and this is especially true for webmasters. A little success can often motivate you to quit your day job and pursue website building full time. But will this at any point backfire?
Definitely, if you do not have a proper backup plan in case you are forced to face a heavy crash. This is why, I have often advised new successful webmasters from quitting day jobs simply because Adsense is paying them a lot.
Adsense can always come to an end one fine day. You may be banned. Your webhost may crash and you might be left without a website all of a sudden. All these things mean disaster if you do not have a backup source of income. It is recommended,if you hold multiple websites, host each one of them from various hosts. Also, diversify your mode of income. Let it not be only Adsense. Signup to a few affiliate websites. Have more than one topic of website. This is because your website might be the authority on walkmans. But then, when walkmans fall out of favor due to ipods and CD players, your website might naturally stop getting traffic. Hence, have websites on more than one topic so that, given such a change of taste occurs, you can put in effort to renew your website, while not worrying about money stopping to come in.
If you have a plan to each of the above cases, you may always quit your day job!
