Managing your website - Google Sitemap
Google sitemap was introduced in June 2005. Sitemaps basically helps Google to get updated on your website links. Basically, a huge website normally contains a sitemap, which is a page that links to all pages in the directory. Now, when you submit this URL to Google sitemaps, Google automatically indexes each time you update your sitemap.
Also, you can analyze your working links, broken links, robot rejected links etc using Google Sitemaps.Another good thing about Google Sitemaps is that only people who have write access to your webserver can access your statistic. This is done with the help of a file that Google provides you to be put in your server, and as long as your server is secure, only you can view the statistic.
This prevents users from viewing statistic of competitor sites. Here is the link to Google Sitemaps.
